BehiG & DSG —
What Swiss websites must prepare for.
Switzerland has passed the Disability Discrimination Act (BehiG), which provides for website accessibility. Currently self-declaration applies — but mandatory obligations are coming. The MCS proactively prepares Swiss businesses.
What the MCS checks for Switzerland
BehiG Preparation (WCAG 2.2 AA)
Currently self-declaration, but the legislator is working on mandatory rules. The MCS checks WCAG 2.2 AA now — so you are not caught off guard when deadlines are set.
DSG (Data Protection Act)
Swiss DSG is stricter than many think. The MCS checks cookie consent, privacy policy, server location and data sharing with EU/US services.
Multilingualism (DE/FR/IT)
Swiss websites are often multilingual. The MCS checks hreflang, canonical tags per language and language attributes for screen readers.
Status & Outlook
- Current: Self-declaration for government websites
- Expected: Extension to private providers (TBD)
- MCS strategy: Prepare now, do not wait
