BFSG & GDPR
What German websites must do.

Since 28 June 2025, the German Accessibility Enhancement Act (BFSG) has been in force. New websites must be accessible. Existing websites have until 28 June 2026. The MCS checks whether you are ready in time.

What the MCS checks for Germany

BFSG Compliance (WCAG 2.2 AA)

The MCS checks Lighthouse Accessibility (40 % weight), alt texts, HTML lang, keyboard navigation and ARIA labels. A score below 70 in Accessibility means: action required before the BFSG deadline.

GDPR & Cookie Consent

Privacy check: HTTPS, HSTS, privacy policy, cookie-consent mechanism, EU hosting. Without these basics you risk not only warnings but also loss of user trust.

Technical SEO Foundation

Canonical, sitemap, robots.txt, schema markup, mobile-friendly. The technical foundation is mandatory — content alone is not enough.

Key Deadlines

  • 28.06.2025 — BFSG in force for new websites
  • 28.06.2026 — BFSG binding for existing websites
  • 25.05.2018 — GDPR already applies
