Anti-Lock-In

Your website belongs to you.

mekyn is a platform, not a cage. You can pull your content anytime as ZIP, GitHub repo or WordPress export — and take your domain to another provider independently. Anti-lock-in is an architectural promise, not a marketing slogan.

Six ways to leave mekyn

Each of these ways is included in the plan — no add-on, no hidden fees.

  • ZIP Export

Complete static HTML/CSS/JS build including images. Deployable on any web host — with or without mekyn.

  • GitHub Push

Direct push to your GitHub repo. We leave behind a GitHub Pages workflow — your site keeps running for free.

  • WordPress Export

Full WXR export. Content, images, menus, SEO meta — directly importable into WordPress.

  • Markdown

All text as Markdown files with YAML frontmatter. Ideal for static site generators (Hugo, Jekyll, Astro, Eleventy).

  • Multi-Hosting Targets

Direct deploy to SFTP, S3, Plesk, Vercel or Cloudflare Pages — your choice, not ours.

  • Domain Transfer

Self-service auth code retrieval for domain transfer. No hidden fees, no 6-month lock.

Six promises, contractually anchored.

These points are in our terms. They are not a marketing bonus — they are contractual basis.

Read the exact wording in our Terms of Service §8.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What exactly do I get in the ZIP export?

Complete static site with HTML/CSS/JS, all images, fonts, robots.txt, sitemap.xml and an .htaccess for 301 redirects. Upload it to any web host and it runs immediately.

  • Does the GitHub push work automatically or just once?

Your choice: one-time snapshot, or continuous sync (every change in the mekyn editor automatically pushes to the repo). The latter is ideal as a backup or for hybrid scenarios.

  • What happens to block types during WordPress migration?

mekyn blocks are converted to Gutenberg blocks (Hero → cover, Features → group, FAQ → accordion). Custom blocks fall back to HTML block. Full 1:1 compatibility is ~95%.

  • How much does the export cost?

Nothing. Anti-lock-in is contract subject, not an add-on. You can use ZIP, GitHub Push and Markdown at any time in any plan — even in Starter.

  • How long do I have access to my data after contract end?

30 days. During this time you can generate unlimited exports, retrieve domain transfer codes and pull backups. After that, your data is removed per GDPR deletion requirements — a final backup download is explicitly possible.

  • Can I transfer my domain myself?

Yes, without questions. In the dashboard under "Domain → Transfer" you find a self-service button: auth code is generated immediately, lock is deactivatable. We don't delay.

Trust is good, contracts are better.

Read the terms, verify the anti-lock-in promise — and come on board without risk.
